I am pretty serious about drums, but don’t know any drummers. So, like now, when I want some advice,
I can’t get much. I’d like to start a blog where drummers can ask questions and get answers, post links
to their drumming, or drummers they like, even if it’s Travis Barker.
I’ve decided to go with 2 bass drums for good, because it’s better, and I would like to know what other double
bass drummers are doing with their hi hat stands. I have a DW remote stand, which is great, but useless in my
situation.
That’s my problem at the moment.
Please post your possible solutions, ideas or questions of your own.
Thanks

hey this is an amazing idea, i know what you mean my number one question for me is tuning i cant get it right and need help badly, as of now my snare is tight on top and bottom, my toms are tight on top and loose on bottom, and my bass drum is tight on the batter side but loose on the otherside, how could i achieve the kind of sound i would hear in say dave matthews band or any popular rock band with that real solid sound? thanks if anyone could help me out
In my experience, having the bottom heads tighter than the top has worked out really well.
My bass has a retro screen on the front and an EQ3 on the batter side and an EQ muffler. On the bass, I would try loose on the batter and slightly tighter on the resonant head.
My snare resonant is tighter than the top, but it takes some experimenting.
thanks i will have to try that
What kind of heads do you have? Honestly that will make the greatest diff. Beauford used to use Evans eq2s. I used to use them as well. Another kick as head is remo resonance heads with a nice 1″ tone ring. Absolutely gorgeous tones come out of those heads when tuned properly. Double ply head with a bit of oil in between to kill obnoxious overtones. Keep top head tight, bottom head mid. Make sure, on all of your lugs, you are getting the same overtones when striking the head. Try some tone rings if you are using single ply, or even double ply. I swear by tone rings.
Yeah I think evans ec2′s are the best heads I’ve ever played. Blows remo away, ill never buy anything else.
I have been extremely happy with the new Remo Ambassador X heads on my toms. Of coarse, it all depends on your drums and the sound you are going for, but on my Gretsch Renowns, those heads have the warmth and roundness that I love with the attack and “punch” of a 2 ply head. I just have clear Ambassadors on the bottom and tune the heads pretty even so that there is lots of sustain. On my kick I use an Aquarian Super Kick 1 with a ported resonant head. i also place a small thin pillow touching the batter head to get more of a “thump”. Both heads are tuned pretty loose.
My drums came with Remo heads. I liked them. They sounded good and were durable.
I switched over to all Evans when it was time for new ones. I have been using Evans for years, and I know which ones work well together.
I used Aquarian for a while. I didn’t like them as much but, the studio x sounded good on the snare.
Hmmm for my pearl double bass (P-3002D) I just use one drum. Im lazy and dont want to have to tune 2 drums to 1 pitch. I have a pearl HH stand that allows me to move the foot pedal so I simply shove the pedal against the Leg on the left side, and pinch the pedal with my double bass pedal on the right side. Works perfect for me. Happy Independence Day.
